SIP received the approvals from the Ministry of Science and Technology of China in March for building the National Biotechnology Innovation Center and the National Third-generation Semiconductor Technology Innovation Center, and, nearly at the same time, was designated the core area for Suzhou to build the National Pilot Zone for Innovation and Development of New-generation Artificial Intelligence.
At the Conference on Building of “One Zone and Two Centers” held in SIP in April, 104 projects were signed, expected to bring an investment of about RMB 20 billion to SIP and trigger a new wave of innovations in this area.
Following that, SIP authorities unveiled the “1+8+X” policy system in May to enhance support for science and technology innovation. The “1” refers to a guiding document with 30 articles designed to enhance businesses’ motivation and abilities for S&T innovation. The “8” refers to eight specialized policy documents which specify support for tech talent, emerging industries, unicorn and gazelle enterprises, SIP-headquartered tech companies, S&T innovation projects and related services. “X” refers to detailed rules and regulations to be adopted for the implementation of the above-mentioned policies.
