The resounding bell started the global premiere of Kunqu masterpiece The Jade Hairpin (New Version) at Suzhou Science and Cultural Arts Center on the evening of November 8, 2008. This is another cooperation project between mainland China and Taiwan after the legendary success of The Peony Pavilion. Producer Hsien-Yung Pai, the prominent writer and Kunqu promoter, believed that, as the hometown of Kunqu art, Suzhou was the best choice for premiering the new version of the classical Kunqu opera.
