Ground-Breaking Ceremony Held for Suzhou CMB Building and CMB Small Business Credit Center
According to Guiding Opinions on the Development of SIP Service Sector during 2005-2010, SIP is to focus on the service industry Double-Growth Project and to promote the accelerated growth in ten SIP sectors including finance, modern logistics, conference and exhibition. On December 5, China Merchants Bank held a ground-breaking ceremony for its Suzhou CMB Building at Jinji Lake Rim CBD.
China Merchants Bank (CMB) is the first share-holding commercial bank wholly owned by corporate legal entities in China. In its history of over two decades, CMB has developed rapidly from a regional bank headquartered in Shenzhen (Shekou) into a large-scale commercial bank of strong competitiveness and good reputation both domestically and internationally, creating a national business network centering in Shenzhen and opening up to the overseas markets.

Since Suzhou offers a favorable economic environment and good business opportunities for the development of financial industry, with strong confidence in economic and financial growth potentials of the city, CMB decided to establish in Suzhou the head office of its Small Business Credit Center, the first financial institution specializing in small business credit business in China, and to construct a new office building, namely, Suzhou CMB Building. Covering a land area of 11.8 mu with a total construction area of 46,000 square meters in reinforced concrete structure, the 20-storey (in addition to two more underground stories) building will be completed in May 2010. The construction of Suzhou CMB Building indicates that the bank aims to further improve its presence and market share in Suzhou and in the entire Yangtze River Delta Area.
