Residents make New Year woodcut prints using rubbing skills

Haishang and Tianyu communities on Jan 8 organized events of similar kind where the participating residents learnt to make Suzhou-style New Year woodcut prints using rubbing skills.

Traditional New Year woodcut prints are very popular household decorations and are always filled with bright colors and auspicious images or characters.
In each of the events, the volunteer teacher gave the participants a detailed account of the history, types and characteristics of traditional New Year woodcut prints, and taught them to make their own prints by laying a piece of paper over the surface of their inked woodcut and rubbing it with a paintbrush.
