Suzhou leg of 1st Curling World Cup wraps up

The Curling World Cup Suzhou 2018-19 wrapped up on Sept 16. The Canadian team won the championships in the women's, men's and mixed doubles tournaments after beating their opponents.

The Curling World Cup is a new annual four-leg event initiated by World Curling Federation last year. It is the only international competitive curling event featuring women's, men's and mixed doubles tournaments. Starting in Suzhou, this year's event is scheduled to conclude in Beijing in May 2019 after touring to the Ralston Arena in the United States and then Jonkoping in Sweden.

As a lead-up to the 2022 Winter Olympic Games in Beijing, the Curling World Cup opener in Suzhou attracted worldwide attention. The participation of a number of Winter Olympics winners made the rivalries extremely exciting. Many local citizens watched the games with increasing interest in curling.

The Chinese team is reported to compete in all of the four legs. In the rivalry on Sept 13, it defeated the Swedish team, silver medal winner at the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics in South Korea.
