Italian and Chinese musicians join hands to stage a concert

Roberto Abbado, an Italian opera and symphonic music conductor, and Li Yundi, a Chinese pianist, jointly staged a concert at SCAC Grand Theatre on Sept 30 to mark the 10th anniversary of SCAC.

Roberto Abbado, who has rich experience in working with world famous orchestras, currently serves as music director of Palau de les Arts Reina Sofia in Valencia, Spain. Li Yundi is the youngest ever winner and juror of the International Chopin Piano Competition. The two master musicians presented the Suzhou audiences with an impressive music feast.

The event also has special significance for Li, who performed together with Hungarian conductor Ivan Fischer and Budapest Festival Orchestra at the inauguration ceremony of SCAC ten years ago.

For Abbado, this is his first performance with Suzhou Symphony Orchestra. "The members of the orchestra are very young and highly skilled. It is a team of great power. We cooperate well, giving quick response to any problems that we encountered. I'm very happy to work with them." he said.
