The Suzhou Research Institute of the Shenzhen Institute of Advanced Technology (SIAT) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) was jointly founded by SIAT and SIP on April 27, 2017. Based on the industrial deployments of Suzhou and SIP as well as the actual needs of local industries, it focuses on research of health-related big data, health services, bio-medical treatment and biological materials. In addition, it provides support for the development of smart city, artificial intelligence, new nano materials (devices) and new drugs.

The institute plans to establish an integrated innovation system and a high-level research and transformation platform relying on CAS'and local resources, striving to promote continuous improvement of regional industrialecosystem and innovation ability. It has made a five-year plan to develop itself into an innovative research institute with over 100 research talents and over 100 introduced, incubated and derivative businesses (with a total output value of more than RMB10 billion), including two or three listed companies.

In addition, it will establish a cluster of innovation-oriented industries through cooperation with a number of state-owned enterprises in SIP, striving to develop it into an innovation highland featuring concentration of talents, emerging industries and technologies in Suzhou.
