Ian Carr-Harris


Ian Carr-Harris  is based in Toronto, Canada, exhibiting nationally and internationally since 1971. He was educated at Queen's University, Kingston, in Modern History and German literature before studying Library Science at the University of Toronto and then sculpture at the Ontario College of Art, now OCAD University. In 1983 he was appointed Chair of the Experimental Arts Department before founding the Sculpture/Installation and the Criticism and Curatorial programs.  He taught in several of the University's programs for forty years before being named Professor Emeritus in 2015.

His work was included in the 9th Paris Biennale, 1975; Documenta 8, Museum Fridericianum, Kassel, 1987; the 8th Sydney Biennale, 1990. His works have also been exhibited in National Gallery of Canada, Ottawa; the Basel Kunsthalle, Switzerland; the Vancouver Art Gallery, Canada.

He is a life member of the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts (RCA) and a current member of the Chelsea Arts Club in London, UK. In 2007 he was named a recipient (Laureate) of the Governor-General's Awards in the Visual and Media Arts and in 2012 recipient of the Life Achievement Award from the Toronto Friends of the Visual Arts.
