Provincial Leaders Meet with Deputy PM Wong Kan Seng of Singapore in Beijing

Mr. Liang Baohua, Secretary of CPC Jiangsu Provincial Committee and Chairman of Standing Committee of Jiangsu Provincial People's Congress, and Mr. Luo Zhijun, Deputy Secretary of CPC Jiangsu Provincial Committee and Governor of Jiangsu Province, met with Deputy Prime Minister Wong Kan Seng of Singapore on the afternoon of July 22 at Jiangsu Room of the Great Hall of the People in Beijing.


Secretary Liang welcomed Singaporean official delegation to Beijing for the 12th Suzhou Industrial Park China-Singapore Joint Steering Council Meeting. Since the two countries established diplomatic relationship 20 years ago, Jiangsu has become Singapore's closest partners in extensive fields of trade, technology, education, culture, and environmental protection, for the province has got 40% of total Singaporean investment in China and the trade value between the two accounts for more than 16% of China-Singapore total. As the biggest cooperation project between the two countries, SIP has obtained striking achievements.


The provincial Party leader pointed out that SIP was planning the second startup by focusing on innovation- and service-based economy, signifying more cooperation opportunities in modern service, technological innovation, talent production, and ecological construction. He believed that the experience of Singapore in economic and public administration would help Jiangsu reach higher goals of development.


Singapore's deputy prime minister said Jiangsu had played an important role in promoting the friendly relationship and strengthening economic ties between the two countries. He agreed that stable and sustainable development had become a main theme for most countries and regions in the world. In order to cope with the changes and challenges, Singapore takes China as an important partner with great potentials of cooperation. Mr. Wong said SIP was a recognized successful project and they wanted to see it maintain current competitiveness. He believed that, with joint efforts, SIP would still be one of the best industrial parks in the world after another 15 years of development.


After the meeting, the co-chairmen of China-Singapore Bilateral Working Committee, Mayor Yan Li of Suzhou and Mrs. OW Foong Pheng, Second Permanent Secretary at Singapore's Ministry of Trade and Industry, signed the keynote report of the 12th Suzhou Industrial Park China-Singapore Joint Steering Council Meeting.
