3M Sets Up First Micro-optical Engine Manufacturing Base in Suzhou
George W. Buckley, Chairman and CEO of the Fortune-500 3M Company, announced on April 15 at the opening ceremony of "China Innovation Day" in Suzhou that the first 3 M manufacturing base for micro-optical engines of globally advanced technology was to be located in SIP. On the same day, Yan Li, Deputy Secretary of CPC Suzhou Municipal Committee and Mayor of Suzhou, met Mr. Buckley and his delegation at Shangri-la Hotel.

The micro-optical engine was a technological breakthrough made by 3M in the R&D of micro-projection. The planned 3M Suzhou plant will be the first manufacturing base in the world for commercial production of the new products.

The micro-optical engine can be applied on any personal electronic equipment for imaging. The cell phone loaded with such imaging device is said to be launched later this year at the market, and by then, the 50,000m2 3M Suzhou plant will begin mass produce the hi-tech products of the optical electronic industrial chain.

At the Innovation Day exhibition, 3M displayed a series of environmental and hi-tech products in the fields of urban power supply, energy-conservation, urban drinking water, automobile, electronics, household appliances, health care, and garment.
