Donghu Dajun Community in SIP’s Hudong sub-district is exerting all efforts to push forward waste sorting.

The community has adopted two long-term mechanisms that allow the residents to accumulate credit points and collect privilege cards by practicing waste sorting for exchange of gifts. Besides, the residents are encouraged to take pictures of their waste sorting processes and share them on WeChat.

In another move, the community has put together a volunteer team of 40 youngsters aged below 10 to join related publicity campaigns and visit local seniors on a regular basis to offer them help in waste sorting.

Moreover, the CPC branch at the community and the local property management company jointly convened a meeting on May 18 to allocate tasks to seven volunteer teams consisting of community workers, property management staff and residents for regular patrols, publicity activities and other work related to waste sorting.
According to Liu Xiaoyan, secretary of the CPC branch at the community, the local waste sorting and supervision mechanisms will be further improved in the future, and an evaluation system will be employed to evaluate local residential quarters’ performance in waste sorting on a monthly basis and urge rectifications if any problem is discovered.
