AGC Group, a Japanese conglomerate known as the world’s largest glass manufacturer and a leading supplier of glass products to the building, automotive and display industries, signed an agreement with SIP Administrative Committee on Oct 14 to set up a manufacturing base in the area for production of curved cover glass for car-mounted displays.
It is learnt that, as the world’s only company capable of mass production of glass of the kind, AGC will first invest US$132 million in building an about-28,000-square-meter plant in SIP and equipping it with best-in-class production facilities.
Marketing of products made at the plant is expected to start in 2022, the company disclosed, adding that it plans to add headquarters and R&D functions to the base in the future.
