Communities in SIP’s Hudong sub-district recently hosted an assortment of events in an attempt to disseminate traditional Chinese culture. 

 

Baitang Community organized an event on Aug 16 to teach the participating residents Suzhou dialect. The teacher started the event by encouraging the participants to introduce themselves to each other using their own dialects, and then taught them simple words and sentences in Suzhou dialect. 

 

Another event took place on the same day in Donghu Linyu Community where an expert on traditional Suzhou-style folding fans gave the local CPC members a specific introduction to the fans and taught them to draw lotus flowers (a symbol of purity and integrity in Chinese culture) on blank fans.
