The one-week 6th Chinese Primary and Middle School Students’ Art Exhibition kicked off in Suzhou on Apr 15, sparking a craze for art across the city with a series of events attended by students from around Chinese mainland and Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions.

The opening ceremony was the first highlight, with a list of dancing, singing and musical instrument playing performances featuring distinctive cultural characteristics in different areas.

An exhibition opened at SIP’s Suzhou International Expo Centre concurrently, showcasing 309 artworks by 54 student teams, including paper-cuts, shadow puppets, straw-braided works, embroideries, dough (clay) figurines, woodcut prints and lots of creative handiworks that demonstrate the students’ excellent hands-on skills and good understanding of traditional and modern Chinese culture.

Apart from that, a carnival started at SIP’s Suzhou Culture and Arts Centre on the night of the same day. Nine troupes from Suzhou-based primary and middle schools staged wonderful performances.
