Chinese and Singaporean officials present at events to mark SIP’s 25th anniversary

The China-Singapore Suzhou Industrial Park 25th Anniversary Celebration-Development Report Conference took place in Suzhou on Apr 12. Singapore’s Deputy Prime Minister Teo Chee Hean, Chinese Vice Minister of Commerce Qian Keming, CPC Jiangsu Committee Secretary Lou Qinjian, Jiangsu Governor Wu Zhenglong and CPC Suzhou Committee Secretary Zhou Naixiang delivered speeches at the event to congratulate SIP on its 25th anniversary and encourage it to continuously seek a more prosperous development in the future. A host of other Chinese and Singaporean officials were present.

At the event, Wu and Indranee Thurai Rajah, minister in the Singaporean Prime Minister’s Office, read the congratulatory messages from Chinese Premier Li Keqiang and Singaporean Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong to commemorate SIP’s 25th anniversary.

Following that, a report was released to give a detailed account of the achievements that SIP has made over the past 25 years. According to the report, SIP has thus far attracted about 5,000 foreign-funded enterprises from over 70 countries and regions, offered support to 309 Chinese enterprises in their investment in 53 countries and regions, and took part in the construction of 12 industrial parks home and abroad.

In another part of the event, a number of enterprises and organizations signed agreements to launch in SIP 150 projects that are expected to boost a strong development of strategic emerging industries such as biomedicine, AI, nanotech, new-generation information technology and high-end manufacturing in the area.

Other events on the day included a meeting between the Singaporean officials led by Teo Chee Hean and the local officials led by Lou and Wu before the report conference, the inauguration ceremony for SIP Sino-Singaporean Cooperation Exhibition Hall and a tour around it, and an evening art show. The events enabled the Singaporean guests to gain a holistic picture of SIP’s development trajectory and outcomes over the past 25 years.
