Led by their teachers, over 20 students from Overseas Chinese Academy Suzhou, a school in SIP for children of overseas returnees, started on Apr 8 a six-day tour along part of the Grand Canal of China, trying to learn more about the UNESCO World Heritage Site known as the longest man-made waterway in the world.

As scheduled, they are taking a ship to travel three days along the Wuxi-Suzhou section of the canal before cycling to Hangzhou to finish the rest of the tour. In the process, they will visit a list of places of interest, cultural relics and historic sites such as ancient temples, bridges and post houses to gain a better understanding of the history and culture about the canal.

The school hopes that the survey tour will not only enhance the students’ knowledge of the Grand Canal, but also increase their interest and determination to do their bit in preserving and utilizing the great project.
