Jinji Lake Tunnel, an about-6.04-kilometer project designed to connect the east and west banks of Jinji Lake, started construction on Feb 13. With a total investment of about RMB 6.02 billion, it is expected to come into service in late 2022.

The two-way six-lane tunnel, with an about-3-kilometer section in Jinji Lake and the rest above ground, will extend from Xinghai Street at the lake's west bank to Nanshi Street at the east bank. With a design speed of 50 km/h, it will help significantly decongest traffic on both sides.

It is learnt that the streets and roads around the project will remain in service during the construction period, and temporary bridges will be built up at several crossing points to ensure normal access to Jinji Lakeshore Footpath.
