A paper recently published on IEEE Transactions on Intelligent Transportation Systems, a world leading magazine publishing peer-reviewed articles about intelligent transportation systems, has drawn great public attention to a research team at Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering at Xi'an Jiaotong-Liverpool University (XJTLU) and their globally pioneering study aimed at helping reduce energy consumption of trains.

The paper, highlighting an algorithm to control trains' running and charging modes for energy saving, is co-authored by Wu Chaoxian, a doctoral candidate at the department, and two undergraduate students. They are all members of a rail transit research team led by their teacher Dr. Lu Shaofeng.

It is reported that the students' study received the financial aid from the National Natural Science Foundation of China in 2016, and has lately gained the support from the National Rail Transit Electrification and Automation Engineering Research Center at Southwest Jiaotong University.
