Interesting summer vacation events start
Following the beginning of summer vacation in early July, many communities at Weiting Sub-district have organized diverse events in an attempt to help the youngsters gain new knowledge in interesting ways.
Xingzhou Community showed a movie with animalized characters to the local children on July 7, enabling them to better understand the Chinese history from 1840s to 1940s. The youngsters also had chances to exchange opinions with student volunteers from School of Humanity at Soochow University and got materials for making Chinese knots from them.
Cailian Community offered a lecture on safety on the same day. Based on real cases, a local police officer gave the youngsters a detailed account of accidents that frequently occur during children's vacations, calling on them to keep vigilant against potential risks and teaching them emergency response skills.
Lianfeng Community hosted an event on the day to mark the 81st anniversary of the Marco Polo Bridge Incident, the start of the War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression (1937-1945). In the process, the children listened to the volunteer's explanations of the Chinese revolutionary culture and drew pictures on round fans.
Songtao Community organized a visit to a nearby papermaking company, where the youngsters learned about traditional and modern papermaking techniques, tried some of them and made paper cubes.
