Cinderella has stepsisters portrayed by men in SBT ballet

Suzhou Ballet Theatre (SBT)'s modern ballet Cinderella, an adaption from French author Charles Perrault's widely known fairy tale "Cinderella, or The Little Glass Slipper", was staged on July 6 and 7, attracting a flood of youngsters and their parents.

The ballet which made its debut in 2016 is obviously an audacious theatrical representation of the classic literary work. Following the same story line about the girl Cinderella who eventually enjoyed good fortune after a succession of tribulations from her stepmother and stepsisters, the performance embeds innovative adaptations and stage techniques, such as modern costumes, humorous language and, the most surprising, the wicked and ugly stepsisters acted by two men.

The ballet won great favor of the audiences, especially the youngsters who were so excited when they received autographed pictures from the artists after the performances.
