Serial events to mark Culture and Natural Heritage Day

The Publicity Department of CPC SIP Working Committee recently hosted a series of events to mark the Culture and Natural Heritage Day, which, annually celebrated around the country on the second Saturday in June to arouse the public's awareness of heritage conservation and protection, fell on June 9 this year.

At the event from June 8 to 9, nine non-governmental cultural heritage protection organizations and a number of intangible cultural heritage inheritors demonstrated various traditional crafts such as wood carving, porcelain repairing and facial makeup painting to over 1,000 visitors.

In another event on June 9, an expert in K'o-ssu craftsmanship (a traditional technique in Chinese silk tapestry, admired for its lightness and clarity of pattern) and a famous emcee from Suzhou TV Station imparted knowledge on K’o-ssu and pingtan (storytelling and ballad singing in Suzhou dialect) to the participants. Additionally, a group of traditional craftsmanship inheritors introduced their techniques and related culture at several libraries and communities.

Apart from that, an exhibition kicked off at SIP Cultural Centre on June 9 and will last till June 30. On display are pictures paired with captions to give a holistic picture of seven intangible cultural heritages and nine protected historic sites in SIP.

At the same time, the local library system has recommended a list of books on natural and cultural heritages to the readers.
