SYDF becomes a new cultural brand of Suzhou
The 2018 Suzhou Youths' Drama Festival (SYDF), which started at Suzhou Culture and Arts Center (SCAC) on Mar 30, is about to conclude. In nearly two months, the event has caused a huge stir in the city. Few people now doubt that it has become a new local cultural brand.
With a host of well-selected performances, including those adapted from Chinese and foreign literary classics such as Letter from an Unknown Woman by Austrian novelist Stefan Zweig and Ordinary World by Chinese novelist Lu Yao, the event offers the local citizens good chances to broaden their horizons and foster a good artistic taste.
More importantly, the festival provides a stage for young drama performers, both professionals and amateurs, to showcase their artistic talents and learn from their peers. There are playlet competitions, master's lectures and drama workshops, where they have chances to put on their original works and interact with renowned artists from different regions. Moreover, the "Sapling Plan" has been launched to give financial and other forms of support to local drama troupes and professionals.
At the same time, the event serves as a bridge between Suzhou and the rest of the world. It showcases the most essential facets of Suzhou culture and art that are attracting more and more people to the city.
