Residents make mooncakes to mark Mid-Autumn Festival
Communities in Xietang Sub-district recently organized several mooncake making events to mark the upcoming Mid-Autumn Festival, which, reckoned on the fifteenth day of the eighth month on the Chinese lunar calendar, falls on Oct 4 this year. These events enhanced the residents' understanding of the traditional Chinese festival.
The event held in Chefang Community on Sept 23 attracted many local families. The parents and their children made colorful syrup-wrapper mooncakes following the direction of a teacher. Then the volunteers presented some of the mooncakes to the local empty-nest elderly.
In another event of similar kind, 25 children together with several parents in Songyuan Community learned how to make mooncakes from a pastry cook. The event enhanced their understanding of the traditional customs related to the Mid-Autumn Festival.
A total of 16 families participated in a charity event held in Songtan Community on Sept 23, making mooncakes and presenting them to the local senior citizens.
