910,000 RMB Goes to Aid 820 SIP Needy Students

The annual loving-care activity for needy students goes on as usual when the new academic year is approaching. The 2010 Suzhou Industrial Park (SIP) Loving Care for Needy Students was held on August 30 in SIP Modern Building. On the ceremony, 910,000 yuan subsidized by government and donated by enterprises and individuals, were distributed to 820 SIP students, including students in the period of compulsory education, high school, and undergraduate education.

On the ceremony, 13 representatives of enterprises, such as SJEC Corporation, made an on-the-spot donation to over 50 needy students, including local students and children of migrant workers. Because the children of migrant workers account for 25% of all students in SIP and outnumber the local students by proportion in some schools, this special large group also gets the financial aid this year.

In the past three years, nearly 100 SIP enterprises and individuals have taken part in this loving care project, donating 3.2 million yuan to aid over 3,100 needy students (person-times).

In 2009, Smith & Nephew Medical (Suzhou), long devoted to charitable undertakings, contributed a total of 1,866,000 USD to charitable organizations.
