OptoTrace Develops Food Safety Testing Device for Expo 2010 Shanghai

Expo 2010 Shanghai is at the corner, and a number of SIP enterprises are ready to serve it. For example, the portable high-precision Raman spectrometer developed by OptoTrace Technologies, Inc., in Suzhou Industrial Park (SIP) BioBay, will be applied for the food and drug safety test at the Expo.

By analyzing the scattering spectrum projected from the laser that irradiates through colorless glass or other transparent materials on the liquids in containers (bottle cap covered), the device could ferret out whether the container has suspected chemicals like explosives or flammable liquid. For instance, it only takes 3 seconds to detect whether the milk was contaminated by melamine. It is reported that the device has been successfully applied to foodstuff safety test, criminal investigation, environmental protection, pharmacy, primary screening of major diseases, and so on.
