Calligraphy exhibition commemorating Mao Zedong's birthday concludes
The 15-day calligraphy exhibition themed "Splendid History of Poetry", started on Dec 10 to commemorate the 124th anniversary of the birth of the late Chinese leader and poet Mao Zedong, concluded at Dushu Lake Library, SIP on Dec 24.
The event was initiated by Fei Zhixiong, an 80-some calligrapher who serves as vice chairman of Suzhou Calligraphers Association. On display were 122 copies of Mao's poems written by Fei and 51 of his students and friends. The diversified styles of the exhibits demonstrate the calligraphers' profound understanding of the poems.
The event also incorporated three salon sessions, where three famous Chinese calligraphers respectively gave a talk on the styles, history, characteristics and practice methods of traditional Chinese calligraphy.
Concurrently, the event provided opportunities each Sunday afternoon for visitors interested in Chinese calligraphy to learn brush writing skills from the calligraphers.
