Xi Youmin: higher education in the AI era


The 7th Wu Wenjun AI Science & Technology Awarding Ceremony cum 2017 Annual Meeting of Chinese AI Industry took place in Suzhou on Dec 23 and 24. At the annual meeting, Prof. Xi Youmin, executive president of Xi'an Jiaotong-Liverpool University (XJTLU), gave a speech titled "Higher Education in the AI Era".

Xi said the current education concepts and teaching approaches need changes, because they cannot help satisfy the future demands for talents.

He explained in detail the influence of AI technologies on education modes and school staffing, calling on making full use of AI technologies to diversify the teaching modes for different groups.???

He also proposed to tighten the ties between schools and enterprises, industries and the society to form up a value creation and resource sharing chain for more targeted education.
