Diverse events to enhance residents' knowledge on Chinese traditions

Communities at Shengpu Sub-district recently launched several events to mark the Winter Solstice Festival, which, the 22nd of 24 Chinese Solar Terms, fell on Dec 22 this year.

More than 10 children made rice glue balls (small dumpling balls made of glutinous rice flour with sweet fillings) at Shengpu Sub-district Culture & Sports Station Library with the help and instruction of the library staff. They also learned knowledge on the festival and related traditions at the same time.

Yuandong Community hosted a charity bazaar on Dec 22. The volunteers bought rice glue balls with the raised money and presented them to 11 local elderlies who live alone.
Many residents and volunteers in Jinyuan Community made rice glue balls together and presented them to local financially difficult families on Dec 22.

Children at Jinguang Kindergarten made dumplings on Dec 21. The event enhanced their knowledge on Chinese traditions as well as their hands-on ability.

Langhuayuan Kindergarten also carried out a theme event on Dec 18, when the teacher imparted knowledge on the festival to the children and helped them make rice glue balls.
