The past May Day holiday witnessed the opening of the phase-4 of Xietang Old Street and the 2nd culture & art festival. During the holiday, the theme opera "Flirting Scholar" and the performance "Su Show" in real garden setting brought great pleasure to visitors and citizens.

Gifted scholars and beautiful ladies visited Xietang
In the theme opera "Flirting Scholar", strolling along the Old Xietang Street, with pseudo-classical buildings of white-plastered walls and black roof tiles on both sides, the four gifted elegant scholars (in Chinese history, they were Tang Bohu, Zhu Zhishan, Wen Zhengming and Xu Zhenqing in the Ming Dynasty) and their beautiful beloved discussed poetry and paintings and appreciated swimming fish in water and blooming flowers in the garden. If it hadn't for the visitors clad in modern dress, you would have mistakenly believed that you were actually in the Ming Dynasty.

Be intoxicated with soft music of Pingtan and Kunqu
When the evening lights were lit on the street, the Pingtan singer sang in Suzhou dialect the sorrows and joys of human life to the accompaniment of stringed instruments, the performer played fair-sounding Chinese zither melody and the dancer presented pretty and charming classical dance. All that won high praise from the audience.

Appealing folk arts and crafts
At the traditional cultural fair of the phase-4, more than 10 kinds of traditional arts and crafts like sugar painting, straw plaiting, and pottery designing attracted lots of visitors.

Leisurely and comfortable spare time on the street
During the festival, which will end on May 31, exciting activities will be held every weekend. Apart from that, you can enjoy dining, tasting tea, dating or having a leisure time on this garden-like street.
