SIP’s International Waterfront Community is carrying out a series of on- and off-line publicity activities to call on local residents to mark the upcoming Chinese Tomb-Sweeping Day in ways without gatherings in order to prevent the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) that is now under good control nationwide, but has not yet been totally wiped out.
The Tomb-Sweeping Day, also known as Chinese Qingming Festival, is the fifth of the 24 Chinese Solar Terms and will fall on Apr 4 this year. Chinese have the tradition to reunite with their families and relatives around the festival to commemorate the decedents in the families at their tombs.
The community committee is now using bulletin boards and messaging apps to inform the residents of the local authorities’ latest regulations on COVID-19 prevention around the festival and suggest that they use a designated WeChat program to mark the day online or entrust an agency to conduct a commemoration ceremony on their behalf.
