SIP’s Jingying Apartment Community recently saw an assortment of events to celebrate the upcoming Chinese New Year which, reckoned on the first day of the first month on the Chinese lunar calendar, will fall on Jan 25 this year. The events tightened the ties between the residents who come from different parts of the country to work and live in SIP.

A parent-child event offered a group of youngsters a chance to know better about folk customs related to Chinese Laba Festival and New Year. In the event, the youngsters first learnt to identify various grains usually used to make Laba porridge for the Laba Festival table. They then made cloth firecracker models, and gained a better understanding of related customs and the country’s limits on use of firecrackers considering their pollution to environment.

In another event, a number of youths, teenagers and expatriates gave wonderful singing and dancing performances to other residents.

The community also hosted the Chinese New Year banquet where the residents shared their specialty dishes with each other and enjoyed art performances given by a team of local amateur performers.
