Many people in SIP’s Moon Bay sub-district received delicious porridge and cakes from a team of staff from SIP Moon Bay Community Working Committee and Worldhotel Grand Dushulake Suzhou on Jan 2, the day of Chinese Laba Festival, which is reckoned on the eighth day of the 12th month on the Chinese lunar calendar.

Chinese have the tradition to eat Laba porridge on the Laba Festival. The porridge is usually made of at least eight ingredients, such as rice, nuts and dried fruit, representing people’s prayers for good harvest and harmony in the new year.

In the event, the staff from the committee and the hotel first presented porridge and cakes to the overseas returnees and other residents in different communities, and introduced to them legends and customs related to the festival and the ways of making Laba porridge. They then gave porridge and cakes to the security guards, sanitation workers and property management staff who were on duty the day to show their respect and care for them.
