The authorities of communities in SIP’s Hudong sub-district are trying their utmost to make volunteer services easily and regularly available for local residents. The following events are convincing proof.

Shidai Shangchengnan Community and its partners jointly organized a book donation on Nov 4. The event helped collect about 150 books including classic literary works, storybooks, comics and science books for kids in Tongren, a less-developed city in Southwest China’s Guizhou province. The donators also wrote down their words on postcards which will be sent to the kids together with the books. The youngsters who donated the most books received potted plants.
In the event in Donghu Linyu Community on Nov 1, a group of volunteers collected tree leaves for a number of physically and mentally challenged teenagers and taught them to make collages using the leaves. The event not only enabled the teenagers to acquire a good knowledge of nature, but also enhanced their hands-on ability and interaction with others.

In the event in Donghu Chunyun Community, the volunteers provided over 10 free services including legal consultancy, medical treatments, knife sharpening, clothes mending and blood pressure and glucose testing to the participating residents. The event also incorporated a flea market for the participants to exchange used batteries and expired drugs for potted plants, and a publicity campaign and prize-giving quiz on garbage classification.
