A group of youngsters in SIP’s Huxi sub-district were appointed “Social Information Officers (SIOs)” on Oct 25. They will work by virtue of on- and off-line channels to collect public opinions and give support in other local initiatives to learn about and record residents’ concerns as well as offer their suggestions on local governance.

It is learnt that SIP Huxi Community Working Committee launched the SIO program in March 2018 to offer local youngsters chances to do their bit in local governance. So far, over 400 SIOs have served in 700-plus campaigns under the program.
Now, the program has been upgraded. The new SIOs are required to join efforts with their families to make and carry out plans for their actions. Previously, it was the local community staff members who were in charge of the organization of the SIO campaigns. Moreover, there is an evaluation mechanism to measure the SIOs and their families’ performance during their actions.
At the launching ceremony for the new session of the program, a song named “These SIOs are Different” was released as the SIO team’s song.
