SIP Moon Bay Community Working Committee recently organized an event at Dushu Lake Community Club in SIP’s Moon Bay sub-district, where about 50 local residents, young and old, gained a better understanding of Kunqu opera, one of the earliest genres of Chinese drama.

The event is the third session of a program that SIP Moon Bay Community Working Committee initiated last year to organize biannual events that incorporate performances and lectures to help local residents know better about traditional Chinese operas.

In the event, two Kunqu opera artists staged “The Story of Red Pear Blossoms”, a classic Kunqu episode based on a Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) play that depicts an intricate romantic story following a talented scholar and a courtesan. Their graceful movements and excellent singing skills amazed the audiences. After the performance, the artists taught the audiences performance skills and led them in a sing-along of part of the work.
