Suzhou Ballet Theatre (SBT) recently debuted its new ballet Swan Lake at Suzhou Culture and Arts Centre, SIP, with music accompaniment by Suzhou Symphony Orchestra. As other SBT works, the adaptation from the world’s most beloved ballet of the same name which boasts music by Russian composer Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky added to SBT’s increasing fame home and abroad as a disseminator of the art of ballet.

It is learnt that SBT has thus far produced eight ballets, and six of them have been staged overseas. These works, including those completely based on Chinese stories such as Tang Yin and Xi Shi and those adapted from western classics like Romeo and Juliet and The Nutcracker, boast ingenious incorporation of Chinese and western cultural elements and artistic concepts that never fail to pique the audiences’ zest for them.

In addition to the performances, SBT has been engaged in various programs designed to help popularize the art of ballet. For example, it is offering a series of public lectures to help school students, enterprise employees and community residents learn more about ballet.
