Goran Martinovic, former member of the Croatian national boxing team who is running a boxing club in SIP, donated RMB 100,000 to SIP Charity Federation on Apr 2 to establish a charitable fund earmarked for exceptional children in SIP. The fund, named Goran Martinovic Charitable Fund, is the first of its kind established in SIP in the name of a foreign donator.

It is learnt that Goran moved to SIP in 2015 to help his brother Marko set up the Suzhou Showdown white collar boxing events, and opened his boxing club in 2017 to offer training programs for participants of the next Showdown and any other people who want to take boxing as a way to keep fit.

Goran has never stopped contributions to good causes over the past few years. The earnings from the Showdown events were donated to charities each year to help people with different plights, such as children suffering cleft lip, and his club offers free courses to youngsters.

“I experienced wars in my childhood, and that enhanced my comprehension of love and help. I hope I can do my bit in helping children in SIP and even those in other places in China,” said Goran in a CGTN (China Global Television Network) interview.
