Amazing embroidery works on display at Suzhou Eslite Bookstore

The “Yunfan Crafts” Embroidery Exhibition kicked off at Suzhou Eslite Bookstore, SIP on Apr 20 and will be free to the public till May 19. On display are a list of amazing embroidery works from Yunfan, a Suzhou-based embroidery studio dedicated to carrying forward the Suzhou-style embroidery handicraft, a national intangible cultural heritage item originated in Suzhou and its surrounding areas over 2,000 years ago. 

Among the exhibits are two by Zhou Haiyun, a nationally recognized inheritor of the handicraft and founder of the studio, and several by Zhou and her teacher Zhang Yuying, a master in the handicraft. Besides, there are also a work by Zhou’s daughter Liu Xiaolin and Brian Michael Reed, an American conceptual artist, and several other works featuring ingenious incorporation of traditional and modern artistic elements. 

Zhou gave a talk at the bookstore on the same day, sharing with the participants her concepts, art creation experiences and unique embroidering skills.
