A total of 4.24 tons of expired food including beef, fish and shrimps were delivered on Apr 10 to the Kitchen Waste Disposal Center at SIP Organic Waste Disposal Plant where they were turned into natural gas and organic fertilizers after a series of processing procedures.

The about-60-mu (4-hectare) plant, run by Huayan Environmental Development (Suzhou) Co Ltd, a subsidiary of China-Singapore Suzhou Industrial Park Development Co Ltd's public service arm CS Public Utilities, boasts advanced equipment and technologies to break down and recycle biodegradable waste. It partly came into service in February, with a designed capacity of dealing with 90,000-ton kitchen waste, 30,000-ton filtrate and 30,000-ton landscape waste per year.
