Two communities at Weiting Sub-district recently held parent-child events to mark the upcoming Mother's Day, which, annually celebrated worldwide on the second Sunday in May, will fall on May 13 this year. In different ways, the children showed their love and respect for their mothers.

In the event at Qingcheng Community, art teacher Wang Lei gave the participants a detailed account of the history and significance of oil-paper umbrellas before teaching them to draw pictures on the umbrella surfaces. Then the children practiced what they had learnt with their parents' help and instructions and presented their works to their mothers as gifts.

The other event took place in Putian Community, where a number of children learnt to make dumplings following their mothers’ demonstration and instructions and showed respect for their mothers by letting them eat first.
