Following a set of new garbage classification regulations took effect in Shanghai starting July 1, Suzhou, a neighboring city of Shanghai, recently designated a list of residential quarters across the city as pilot zones for garbage classification, including nearly 130 in SIP.

In fact, SIP has been in action for garbage classification since 2012. The local authorities at different levels make action plans every year to guide garbage sorting, and carry out a variety of publicity activities to enhance local residents’ awareness and skills of proper waste disposal.
It is reported that garbage sorting facilities have been installed in 90% of residential quarters in the area and all the public institutions and spaces, while an integrated waste collection, delivery and treatment chain has formed to recycle resources and minimize harm of household refuse.
