Suzhou's planning authority announced on June 14 that the construction of SIP Sports Center will be completed by the end of this year. The sports center will subsequently go into operation in June 2018 as another physical exercise and entertainment venue for local citizens.

Located in the core area east of Jinji Lake, the sports center is designed to be a Class-A comprehensive sports facility with integrated functions for sports, leisure and fitness activities, business and entertainment events as well as art performances. It can serve as a venue for national and international comprehensive and individual competitive sports events, and also an environment-friendly and beautiful sports park open to the public.

The main structure construction has been completed and the construction of façades, 3,500m track, 3,000m cycle track and greening facilities is ongoing.
