Paying bus fares by scanning a QR code was successfully tried out in SIP on Dec 1. It is a new initiative SIP Bus Co., Ltd. launched for the convenience of the public.

SIP Bus introduced the use of QR code into bus management in the first half of 2015. As the mode of "Internet+ bus" keeps developing, the company extended the application of QR code to fare payment this year.

The scanning equipment has been installed on No. 180 buses, where passengers can now scan the QR code with the Alipay or WeChat Payment QR code reader on their cellphones to pay the fare.

SIP Bus will further the online payment mode on all its buses in the first half of next year, and expand its compatibility with various methods of online QR code scanning.

With more and more passengers paying by scanning, the amount of coins and notes will gradually drop, which will lessen the company’s workload to transfer small change into its bank account. Meanwhile, it will diversify the data in the field of urban public transportation, and improve the accuracy of big data analysis, reduce the company's operation cost and offer better services.

Payment by QR code scanning is a new payment mode that replaces cash payment, but the ticket price remains the same. At present, it supports Alipay and WeChat Payment.

SIP Bus is the first in China to have implemented this new way of payment.
