760-Year-Old Xietang Street under Renovation

The renovation of 760-year-old Xietang Street started on January 18 as one of Suzhou Industrial Park's ten key projects towards cultural prosperity.

Bordering on intersection of Nanshi Street and Chexie Road in west, Xingtang Street in east, Vanke East West and Landsea communities in north, and Xietang River in south, the renovation area covers 13 hectares and has three functional areas of old street, exhibition area, and new district, providing business, tourism, cultural, recreational, and shopping services.

The history of Xietang dates back to Southern Song Dynasty (1127-1279) when it was a flourishing street along the Xietang Rriver. It then evolved into a village During the Yuan (1271-1368) and Ming (1368-1644) Dynasties and grew into a town in the Qing (1644-1911), known as South Xietang Town.

In order to maintain the unique cultural tradition of the street, the planner and the operator make it clear that their mission is to gather time-honored brands, handicraft workshops, art studios, museums, and art galleries.

Another distinguished feature of the street is Taiwanese elements. Local authorities believe that Taiwan food and creative culture will rejuvenate and enrich the old street.
