Leica Microsystems, a Germany-based world-leading manufacturer of optical microscopes, equipment for the preparation of microscopic specimens and related products, opened its SMART innovation center in Suzhou 2.5 Industry Park, SIP on Nov 26. With an area of 500 square meters, the new facility focuses on developing high-precision products for life science study and industrial application worldwide.

The innovation center is reportedly the first project that the 170-year-old company runs in Suzhou, despite the fact that it has set up seven branches in the country since 1995.

“We hope the project can help strengthen our main products’ competitiveness in market,” Leica Microsystems China General Manager Chen Huai said, adding that the project is expected to help yield sales of US$ 100 to 200 billion within five years.
