Pfizer animal health spinoff Zoetis broke ground for its new R&D center and manufacturing base in SIP on Apr 26. The complex, with a total planned floor area of 43,000 sqm, will focus on development, production and global supply of vaccines for swine, cattle, fish and companion animals.

The world's largest producer of medicine and vaccinations for pets and livestock has set up several manufacturing bases and laboratories in cities like Jilin, Beijing and Suzhou after it entered the Chinese market in 1995. The new project is its second factory engaged in vaccine manufacturing and global supply after the first one was set up in the city in 2015.

The company hopes the project will help China's livestock farmers better meet the increasing domestic demand for safe and abundant supply of pork, milk, beef and fish.

Zoetis's temporary aquatic vaccine innovation and development center in the city came into service on the same day, dedicated to discover and produce vaccines targeting Chinese aquatic livestock market.
