The industrial ecology in Suzhou Industrial Park centers on three pillar sectors of nanotech, biomedicine, and cloud computing. The nanotech industry features rapid-growing output and great potentials, and leads in nano functional materials, LED, touch control, MEMS, micro-nano flexible manufacturing, and GaN. The highlights include 320-million-yuan "Nano Big Science Machines" phase-1 facility, CAS (Chinese Academy of Sciences) Institute of Electronics (Suzhou), State-Local Joint Engineering Research Center on High-Performance Nano Ceramic Fiber, and Jingzhan Semiconductor's batch production of 8-inch silicon-substrate GaN high-pressure power electronic materials.

SIP's biomed has several industrial clusters of new drug R&D, medical devices (including vitro diagnostic), and biotech. A group of manufacturers have registered with the authority and been certified for bulky sales. Eight Type 1.1 new drugs have applied for, got approval on, started, or completed the phase-3 clinical test.

The cloud computing sector focuses on building eight service and application "clouds" of smart city, health and medicine, culture and education, business, transport, tourism, e-commerce, and e-administration. SIP also contracts ten professional incubators including InnoCafe, ideask, and 36 Kr.

According to municipal statistics, during the first half of 2014, the eight strategic rising sectors totaled 112.883 billion yuan in output and accounted for over 60% of total large-scale industries, among which nanotech, biomed, and cloud computing contributed 9.66, 13.99, and 7.96 billion yuan respectively, growing by 39%, 29.4%, and 38.8% over the previous year.
