Following the percussion band from the SIP-based Suzhou Junior Middle School Affiliated to Xi’an Jiaotong University (XJTU) won a gold award in the recent Jiangsu Leg of 2019 International Percussion Education Association (IPEA) Elite Competition, the school, which is widely known for its strong football teams, again attracted great public attention for its commitment to art and sports education.

 

Football is a characteristic of the school. The school adopts systematic mechanisms to select players for its girls’ and boys’ football teams and offers them professional training. Besides, it has been endeavoring to popularize the sport among its students, including adding football games to the roster for its sports meets and offering displays about the football teams’ achievements on a regular basis. The results are, at the beginning of every new semester, the school’s football club is crowded with applicants, and its exhibition room is full of trophies from various football competitions.

 

The school’s percussion band was formed in 2016. Currently with 18 members, it is growing stronger and stronger. The band has rich experience in performing at such events as art shows and festival celebrations. Its victory at the 2019 IPEA Elite Competition Jiangsu Leg has won it the entry to the finals to be held in Shanghai in October.
