Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University (XJTLU), a cooperative university founded in SIP by China’s Xi’an Jiaotong University and the UK’s University of Liverpool in 2006, has set a good example in education reform based on both eastern and western educational philosophies.
XJTLU currently has 15,000 students, and nearly 30% of its students last year entered top 10 universities on the Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University Rankings, 74% entered top 100 universities on the list and over 80% entered top 200 universities.

The achievements should be attributed to its innovatively designed curriculums given in both Chinese and English, its excellent faculty composed of top-notch experts and scholars from around the globe, and most importantly, its interest-based educational concept.

The school allows its students to change their majors after their freshman year based on what they are interested in and what they are good at. It also offers its students lots of opportunities to broaden their horizons, and gives them support in their research and business projects.

“Education is not to implant knowledge into students’ heads. We are trying to help our students grow healthily, develop correct outlooks on life and society, and find their ways to the future,” XJTLU Executive President Xi Youmin said.
