SIP and Massey University (MU), a prestigious public educational institution in New Zealand, signed an agreement at SIP on July 9 to jointly set up the Massey University (China) Education and Innovation Center in SIP to facilitate commercialization of New Zealand-developed technologies in SIP and promote cooperation in innovation and research projects and cultural exchange between China and New Zealand.

It is learnt that, as a partner of China’s Peking University and Shanghai Jiao Tong University, MU has been seeking cooperation opportunities in Suzhou. It picked up SIP No. 2 Senior High School last year as its base for a joint one-year preparatory program designed to help students who want to study aviation at MU meet the English language and academic requirements for admission. Besides, an MU delegation visited NUS (Suzhou) Research Institute (NUSRI) in SIP this April, discussing collaboration in transnational education, research and business incubation.

“The center will first focus on projects in the fields of environmental and biological technologies, food engineering, healthcare and aviation,” said Ray Geor, pro vice-chancellor of the Massey University College of Sciences, adding that MU will help SIP set up an offshore innovation and entrepreneurship base in New Zealand to woo local projects and talents.
